Addit! Pro For Flight Simulator X

I see a dialog that says, "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" or "Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product Addit! Pro For Flight Simulator X". What should I do?

Workaround

To workaround this problem, try launching Addit! Pro directly by using Windows Explorer. First, navigate to your Addit! Pro program folder, then double click on Additpro.exe.

Solution

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Download apxv708.zip (8 MB) (http://www.byteforge.com/products/ap_fsx/download/apxv708.zip).
  2. Extract apfsx.msi from apxv708.zip and place it in a new folder on your hard drive called C:\apfsx.
  3. On the screen showing the error message, navigate to the apfsx.msi file you extracted in the previous step*:
    a. Click Browse then locate the folder C:\apfsx.
    b. Select apfsx.msi and click Open.
  4. Allow time for the installer to finish. Addit! Pro will appear but if it does not, re-launch the program.

* If you already closed the error dialog, right click on apfsx.msi and chose Repair.

Background

Older versions of Addit! Pro were packaged in the Windows Installer file apfsx.msi. This msi file contains all of the parts needed to install and use Addit! Pro.

If a critical part of Addit! Pro becomes missing or corrupt or if you pick the "Repair Addit! Pro For Flight Simulator X" option, the Windows Installer looks for apfsx.msi. This msi file is a Microsoft Windows Installer data file and it works much like a zip file in that it contains other files needed by Windows Installer. If apfsx.msi cannot be located, Windows Installer raises this error:

The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.

Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'apfsx.msi' in the box below.

Use feature from:
D:\Documents and Settings\[Your Windows Account Name]\Local Settings\Temp\install\

Follow the steps outlined above to make apfsx.msi available to Windows Installer so it can complete successfully.

Now try again. Windows Installer will locate the file and update Addit! Pro automatically.

Notes

The latest versions of Addit! Pro use InstallShield technology to distribute Addit! Pro. However, older versions of the Windows Installer package may still exist on your system and require having apfsx.msi stored locally on your hard drive. So, even if you use the new InstallShield installer and have long since upgraded past version 7.0.8, the older installer may still be present and require the old distribution file apfsx.msi in order for components like Program Menu shortcuts to work properly.
