About LLM Development
LLM development is the engineering discipline of building reliable applications on a large language model. It encompasses retrieval-augmented generation over proprietary documents and data, and fine-tuning where a general model does not meet the requirement. It also covers the design of prompts and tool interfaces as versioned software, and evaluation methods that measure correctness. The objective is a system whose behavior we can specify, measure and reproduce.
We treat retrieval quality, prompt structure and tool definitions as engineering artifacts subject to review, versioning and regression testing. We measure retrieval relevance and citation accuracy against thresholds agreed in the architecture review, and a result below threshold halts the release. We build the application so you can change model provider without a rewrite, which limits exposure to a provider's pricing, availability or policy changes.
